Export a STEP file from Fusion (Fusion 360)

Steps

1. Open the designOpen the design that contains all components of the product (the top-level design, with its components and any linked designs).
2. File › ExportFrom the File menu choose Export. In the dialog set Type to STEP Files (*.stp *.step).
3. Save to your computerTick “Save to my computer”, choose a folder and click Export. You can also right-click the design in the Data Panel and choose Export to get a STEP from the cloud.
4. Check the fileThe STEP keeps each component as a part with its name and position.

Tips for a better manual

• Component names become the part names in the manual; rename “Component3:1” style names first.
• Bodies that are not inside a component are exported too, but group them into components for a clearer plan.
