Export a STEP file from Autodesk Inventor

Steps

1. Open the assemblyOpen the .iam of the whole product.
2. File › Save As › Save Copy AsChoose Save Copy As (or File › Export › CAD Format).
3. Choose STEPSet Save as type to STEP Files (*.stp;*.ste;*.step). Under Options, Application Protocol 214 is a good default.
4. SaveInventor writes one STEP with every occurrence placed in the assembly.

Tips for a better manual

• Browser node names become the part names: rename “Part7:1” style occurrences first.
• Suppressed components are not exported.
